Help Restore the East Bay’s Arnautoff Mural!
The Richmond Industrial City mural was commissioned by the Treasury Section in 1941 for the City’s Main Post Office on Nevin Ave. The work hung in the post office lobby until 1976 when it was removed during a remodel. The mural was misplaced and declared lost until 2014 when Richmond Museum staff found it and negotiated a long term loan with the United States Postal Service. The mural is in overall good condition but requires treatment to remove the lead based adhesive that was used to glue it to the wall. Join us for the benefit dinner on September 12, 2019 and help restore the East Bay’s Arnautoff Mural!
Local history is important because it demonstrates that ordinary people have achieved extraordinary feats and it inspires people to reach for the same in their own lives.
