ABOUT CONTRAPTION QUARTET
Contraption Quartet (formerly FLEX) is a sound art collaboration between Crank Ensemble veterans Larnie Fox, Bodil Fox, Chris Miller, and Lena Strayhorn. Contraption Quartet explores sound and visual performance using low-tech invented instruments and sculptural environments. Members are visual artists and musicians working together to create rhythmic layers of material-based analog sound.
ABOUT PET THE TIGER
Pet the Tiger Inventors Collective is a San Francisco Bay Area ensemble led by David Samas that plays in a wide variety of idioms exploring new timbral dimensions through extended techniques, new instruments, xenharmonics, and fringe acoustic phenomena. They will present a grid of short pieces on Harmonic Series Gamelan, including incidental music for the Tempest and Midsummer Night’s Dream (commissioned by Outsond), original songs and excerpts from Endless Summer (composed for the SF Conservatory of Flowers in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love). David Samas, Bart Hopkin, Peter Whitehead, and Stephen Parris will be performing.
