Brezo at Baltic Square is Point Richmond’s hot new restaurant serving a delicious California Latin Fusion cuisine.
Chefs Heather Mervine and Hector Hernandez have a long history in the food industry in the Bay Area. Heather was raised on a small organic farm in Ukiah and began cooking when she was 6. She later attended the California Culinary Academy. Hector Hernandez was raised with 11 siblings and a mom who cooked amazing Mexican food. He came to Richmond 25 years ago and has worked in restaurants and catering ever since. The two chefs have combined their talents to create a unique, but delicious menu.
The historic building housing the restaurant was formerly known as The Baltic. Built in 1904, the building has served over the years “as a saloon, city hall, residence, funeral parlor, speakeasy, house of prostitution, storage area and restaurant” and was also mentioned in works by Jack London, according to the Richmond Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Brezo updated what was once a dated and dark interior, turning it into a bright and comfortable space. However, the restaurant retains it’s old world tavern charm with the original ornate turn-of-the-century bar still in place.
The restaurant is also family friendly and includes a children’s play area.
